"What are you listening to?" "Who do you listen to?"
You probably get hit with these questions often if the topic concerning music gets brought up. The reaction to the answers of those questions are all subjective. Musical taste and what folks like is subjective in general. So for others to get a feel for what I am about when it comes to music, on this blog I’ll occasionally post up a list of artist I’ve been sort of locked in on lately and why from Hip Hop (mainly), R&B, Pop, and sometimes Alternative. Whether the reason is because of some new music they just released, recommendations friends have offered me, or projects I’ve recently went back too, I’ll give my take on them. So if you have any suggestions for what I should listen to among such, let me know personally or list something in the comments section below. For this post I’ll only list 3 main artist, so let’s get started. Outkast - The hip-hop duo of Big Boi and Andre 3000 will always be in my personal rotation on artist I listen to weekly unless I get flooded by a bunch of projects at once. However, I went back a few of their albums recently because of a debate that sparked up recently. The debate was that Andre 3000 blows Big Boi out the water. Now this is not true. While Andre 3000 is the better overall musician, the gap between the two is pretty close. Listening to their first album Southernplayslisticadillacmuzik enforces that belief in addition to Idlewild and possibly ATLiens. Big Boi is better at straight up rapping than Andre is. He is also more consistent in putting out good music as well. Andre does not have any solo projects, instead he gives us a killer guest verse once in a while but that’s it. All in all though, they’re both great artist whose music consistently gets spins week in and week out. Grouplove – I got recently put on to Grouplove which is an indie rock band from L.A. I’ve went through two albums of theirs and I can say this group is pretty solid. I was never too high on Alternative music or anything of that nature until recently and this is one of the better bands I got my feet wet in. You might’ve heard the song Tongue Tied which was off of the Never Trust a Happy Song album. That song specifically gets me in a better mood when I’m feeling quite down. The project from them that I go back to the most would be Spreading Rumours. Cuts like I’m With You, Didn’t Have to Go, Flowers, and Borderlines & Aliens are good money with me. So if you didn’t hear them already, give them a shot. Anderson .Paak – Another west coast artist, Anderson .Paak the R&B/Hip Hop artist has been making waves in 2015. I first found out about him in the summer of this year from a friend of a friend. He recommended me to check out his album from last year called Venice. Ever since then, I check for his music frequently. From Venice, my favorite tracks would have to be Already, Right There, Drugs, Luh You, and Miss Right. His music is just smooth and dope. The guy can spit and does well on the hooks. He was featured on Dr. Dre’s comeback album Compton a few times. Even having his own track called Animals which may arguably be the best song on the album. He is still within the underground scene but pretty soon I hope he becomes well-known among the masses because with his talent, folks should enjoy him. Others within key rotation recently:
