Here we are in November. Where the holidays are the focus within the closing months of the year. As we move into 2016, another year will have yet passed where Philadelphia sports teams have failed to garner success. And to be honest, it is quite entertaining to see my fellow Delaware Valley citizens complain, yell, kick, and cry on the morning sports talk radio shows. Whenever I’m feeling down or tired in the morning, I can always count on tuning into 94WIP or 97.5 the fanatic to hear the ridicules hot takes, silly suggestions, and hilarious arguing that goes on when callers voice their opinions. So in that regard, thank you Philadelphia!
What’s so awful about the quartet you ask? Guess what? Fun Fact! A Philly team has won one game in November. The Eagles are 0-2, the Sixers are 0-6, and the Flyers are 1-4. That’s 1-12 combined. Folks who enter the games with some type of optimism, leave looking like they tried to eat a pineapple unpeeled. The Phillies didn’t even play in November but I’m pretty sure they could’ve gotten at least ONE win right? Eh, that’s as questionable as Chip Kelly’s revolutionary, all-worldly offense. Speaking of King Chip, the Eagles game-changing legendary boom bap offense looks like it could use some talent. Their defense which is the team’s strength made Jameis Montana Winston look like an MVP which was beautiful to watch. Also Doug Martin channeled his inner Barry Sanders! These Eagles fans now want him back to college. Mind you, these are the same Eagles fans who told me Chip Kelly is a top five head coach over Rex Ryan, Pete Carroll, John Harbaugh, Bruce Arians, Chuck Pagano, and Mike Tomlin. You can say what you want about those coaches but at least players don’t quit on them. As for Kelly that’s a different story. I’m not too much into Hockey at all but the Flyers can catch this slander too. The Flyers went through some management changes recently and are in the rebuilding stages. Last year, many thought this team would make a run for a playoff spot. Now the team is looking inconsistent and that gets some fans frustrated. Together We Build! Build for what exactly? The Sixers blow leads. Play hot potato with the basketball. Have a roster full of centers. The defense is awful and not worse thanks to Nerlens Noel. The GM of the team Sam Hinkie want to tank, I get it and it is understandable. However, will this amount to anything? Embiid and Saric are unknown. The Nerlens & Okafor frontcourt as of now can’t work. Fans are getting impatient and frustrating by not earning the number one overall pick year in and year out. At some point Hinkie has to at least try right? This team even with its problems still try hard in games and that’s thanks to Head Coach Brett Brown. Poor guy. The dude went from being a Spurs assistant coach, enjoying success, to looking like he has not slept in years. He’s a good coach and does well to develop his guys. It’s a shame that some fans are putting the blame on him. Baseball season is currently not in session but it should be known that the Phillies finished the season with the worst record. The Phillies, (sigh) are my baseball team. And my declining interest in baseball has something to do with their lack of success. They went from one of the most feared NL teams to a ball club with washed up players and dudes who finesse checks. The genius responsible for this is now gone in Ruben Amaro Jr. With the number one pick in the draft in addition to young studs like Maikel Franco/Aaron Nola, light appears to shine slightly. All in all, despite my baseball team being awful, if my team goes down they all go down with it. There are so many people to blame, but maybe one day Philly fans will recieve better. However with the Flyers, Sixers, Eagles, Phillies, and Meek Mill (yes we might as well throw him in there) failing, 2015 will be known as the brown paper bag year.

"What are you listening to?" "Who do you listen to?"
You probably get hit with these questions often if the topic concerning music gets brought up. The reaction to the answers of those questions are all subjective. Musical taste and what folks like is subjective in general. So for others to get a feel for what I am about when it comes to music, on this blog I’ll occasionally post up a list of artist I’ve been sort of locked in on lately and why from Hip Hop (mainly), R&B, Pop, and sometimes Alternative. Whether the reason is because of some new music they just released, recommendations friends have offered me, or projects I’ve recently went back too, I’ll give my take on them. So if you have any suggestions for what I should listen to among such, let me know personally or list something in the comments section below. For this post I’ll only list 3 main artist, so let’s get started. Outkast - The hip-hop duo of Big Boi and Andre 3000 will always be in my personal rotation on artist I listen to weekly unless I get flooded by a bunch of projects at once. However, I went back a few of their albums recently because of a debate that sparked up recently. The debate was that Andre 3000 blows Big Boi out the water. Now this is not true. While Andre 3000 is the better overall musician, the gap between the two is pretty close. Listening to their first album Southernplayslisticadillacmuzik enforces that belief in addition to Idlewild and possibly ATLiens. Big Boi is better at straight up rapping than Andre is. He is also more consistent in putting out good music as well. Andre does not have any solo projects, instead he gives us a killer guest verse once in a while but that’s it. All in all though, they’re both great artist whose music consistently gets spins week in and week out. Grouplove – I got recently put on to Grouplove which is an indie rock band from L.A. I’ve went through two albums of theirs and I can say this group is pretty solid. I was never too high on Alternative music or anything of that nature until recently and this is one of the better bands I got my feet wet in. You might’ve heard the song Tongue Tied which was off of the Never Trust a Happy Song album. That song specifically gets me in a better mood when I’m feeling quite down. The project from them that I go back to the most would be Spreading Rumours. Cuts like I’m With You, Didn’t Have to Go, Flowers, and Borderlines & Aliens are good money with me. So if you didn’t hear them already, give them a shot. Anderson .Paak – Another west coast artist, Anderson .Paak the R&B/Hip Hop artist has been making waves in 2015. I first found out about him in the summer of this year from a friend of a friend. He recommended me to check out his album from last year called Venice. Ever since then, I check for his music frequently. From Venice, my favorite tracks would have to be Already, Right There, Drugs, Luh You, and Miss Right. His music is just smooth and dope. The guy can spit and does well on the hooks. He was featured on Dr. Dre’s comeback album Compton a few times. Even having his own track called Animals which may arguably be the best song on the album. He is still within the underground scene but pretty soon I hope he becomes well-known among the masses because with his talent, folks should enjoy him. Others within key rotation recently:
Most breathing folks like football. There is no denying that. Whether it be college or professional, most of us have our mood determined for an entire week based on what our favorite football team does for 3-plus months. Regardless, football is a joy to watch at the end of the day. The NFL this year has been strange to say the least.
The reviews on the season so far have been mixed. Some are enjoying it but most are noting how it has been mediocre. Here are some the observations I have spotted either throughout the season or in recent times.
Friday the 13th is considered universally as the day for bad luck. That day was not particularly a good day for myself. My bad day though, was different from many others around the world. Specifically for the folks out in Paris. Japan also had concerns of its own.
As you may already know, Paris had gone through an awful terrorist attack. Their second within the past year. Over 150 people were killed at different points in the city. Specifically in Bataclan Hall where an Eagles of Death Metal concert was taking place. Also, outside of Stade de France where a soccer match between the French and German national teams took place. Hostages were taken, AK-47’s were used, suicide bombers were involved, and panic spread throughout. This is considered the bloodiest attack on France since World War II which was quite a while ago. On the flip side, Japan was going through some concern themselves. An Earthquake rated with a magnitude of 7 hit off the south west coast of the country. This then triggered a Tsunami warning for some of the nearby islands/landmarks. In 2011, a similar situation had happened where over 18,000 were either dead or missing. Over 200,000 people since then have yet to even return to their homes. Luckily, no tragedy came out of this. The Tsunami ended up being a small one and the warning had been lifted for the southern-west coast of Japan. So everything turned out good on that end. However, the citizens in Paris will be unfortunate have their year begin and end in torment which is sad and depressing. Another negative in this is that people regardless will have their say on the situation. I say negative because most people won’t be saying the right things. They’ll not want to sympathize, instead the senseless hot takes will be in full effect about anything related to the situation. So after observing and hearing all I’ve heard throughout the day. Here are some of my brief takeaways.
That’s all I have to say. Keep calm all and pray for better day. |
